Business women benefit from entering national Awards
7 Jun 2011
Former winners of the Telstra Business Women’s Awards are urging outstanding achievers to join the Awards.
The prestigious Awards, now in their 17th year offer a range of benefits to entrants from public celebration of their inspirational achievements, to personal career reflection and new business and networking opportunities. Entries in the 2011 Awards close on June 20.
One recent winner who is encouraging business women across Australia to enter this year is Janet Buhagiar, 2010 national marie claire Young Business Woman of the Year.
Ms Buhagiar, a former Melbourne retail industry executive who was formerly CEO of St Vincent de Paul Society in the NT, said it was the journey that made entering into the Awards a worthwhile experience.
“Entering the Telstra Business Women’s Awards was an enriching and genuine experience, one that has helped open doors to all kinds of opportunities. The entire process allowed me to reflect on my business experience and achievements. It wasn’t about winning but about the journey in discovering what the next chapter in my life and career could be,” she said.
Working more recently as a volunteer for a charity in remote villages outside Dili in East Timor, Ms Buhagiar has now been appointed director of social policy in the NT Chief Minister’s Department.
Karin Adcock, Managing Director of Pandora Jewelery in Australia and 2010 Telstra NSW Business Woman of the Year, said the Awards experience forced her to take a close look at all aspects of her business.
“The entry process allowed me to see what we had achieved and what we needed to work on to improve some areas of our business. The process made me re-evaluate what was important to me and what to focus on to build a successful business,” she said.
Ms Kate McKenzie, Group Managing Director Telstra Innovation, Products & Marketing and TBWA Ambassador, said nominations were already strong for this year’s Awards.
“Since 1995 the Awards have uncovered extraordinary women in leadership positions – business entrepreneurs and high achievers in the private and corporate sector and from community and government organisations. This year we look forward to celebrating a new generation of leaders,” she said.
Nominations are still open for the 2011 Awards and entries close on 20 June. Information about the Awards is available at www.telstrabusinesswomensawards.com or by calling 1800 817 536 between 9am and 7pm AEST Monday to Friday.
