Tasmania's top business women head to Awards finals
2 Sep 2010
2 September 2010: The owners of online businesses that promote Tasmania's produce and vineyard tours are among finalists in the 2010 Telstra Tasmanian Business Women's Awards.
Fourteen Tasmanian business women were named today as finalists for the Awards, now in their sixteenth year.
Patricia Reid, owner of Stanley-based online retailer of food, wine and gifts Providore 24, and Robyn Lewis, CEO of Cambridge-based culinary travel guide VisitVineyards.com, are both finalists for the Commonwealth Bank Business Owner Award.
In a further sign of the importance to Tasmania of promoting its finest produce, finalists also include a Fruit Growers Tasmania executive responsible for developing export markets and the managing director of an Elizabeth Town cheddar cheese producer who pioneered wasabi-flavoured cheese.
Other finalists include a former police officer who now heads Royal Life Saving Tasmania, a former nurse who now runs a chain of dog grooming salons in Hobart and the owner of an all-woman real estate business in East Launceston.
Telstra Chief Marketing Officer and Telstra Business Women's Awards Ambassador, Kate McKenzie, said today the Tasmanian finalists were a diverse group of successful business women whose achievements provided inspiration for the careers of countless others.
"Telstra congratulates the 2010 finalists from Tasmania for the leadership, innovation and hard work they have displayed throughout their careers," Ms McKenzie said.
"Since 1995, the Telstra Business Women's Awards have celebrated the achievements of outstanding Australian business women.
"The finalists from Tasmania this year join the tradition of women who have made significant contributions both across the State and within their local communities," Ms McKenzie said.
The winners of the 2010 Telstra Tasmania Business Women's Awards will be announced at a presentation luncheon on 28 September at the Wrest Point Derwent Room, Sandy Bay, Hobart.
Winners of the Awards will receive a share of $200,000 in cash and prizes and become part of an exclusive national business alumni.
The Tasmanian winners will proceed to the national finals of the Telstra Business Women's Awards which will be announced in Melbourne on 11 November.
