Telstra Business Women's Awards open for 2010

19 Apr 2010

19 April 2010 - A nation-wide search for Australia's most inspiring business women is on again with the 2010 Telstra Business Women's Awards open today for nominations and entries.

More than 430 outstanding women have won acclaim and significant profile for their achievements, courage and leadership capabilities in business since the Awards began in 1995. Past winners include Georgina Rinehart, Chairman of Hancock Prospecting Pty Ltd (2009), Janine Allis, Founder and Managing Director of Boost Juice Bars (2004) and Julia Ross, Managing Director of Julia Ross Recruitment (2002).

Ms Kate McKenzie, Telstra's Chief Marketing Officer and Telstra Business Women's Awards Ambassador, said today: "Inspiring women inspire other women - there's no doubt that successful business women are important influences on the careers of other women.

"For women, the support and inspiration of other women who have faced many of the same challenges, is especially valuable.

"Finalists often say the Awards program allows them to step out of their demanding business lives to meet peers, share ideas, support one another and to build networks.

"The winners also have provided motivation for countless other women to reach and exceed their own goals."

Over 16 years the Awards program has provided a spotlight on the achievements of outstanding and inspirational business women, from diverse industries and backgrounds many of whom have succeeded against significant odds.

2009 Telstra Australian Business Woman of the Year Georgina Rinehart said the honour of being acknowledged in her own country for her work was the best thing that had happened to her outside of being a mother.

Ms Rinehart, Chairman of mining company Hancock Prospecting Pty Ltd and the Hancock Prospecting Group, said: "The achievements of business women are promoted through the recognition that comes via these important Telstra Awards.

"The scope of the individual awards offers wide opportunities for women to be involved and I would encourage Australians to nominate business women and also encourage women to take part in the entry process."

Ms McKenzie added the Awards were part of Telstra's long standing commitment to inspiring women to succeed in business.

"In addition to these Awards, Telstra's support of diversity in its workplace has gained international recognition, winning the US Catalyst Awards which honours innovative approaches in the recruitment, development and advancement of women in management," she said.
