Victoria's top business women head to Awards finals

8 September 2010: The CEO of a business with nine aged care facilities in Melbourne and Geelong and an executive with global experience in one of the world's largest IT companies are among finalists in the 2010 Telstra Victorian Business Women's Awards.

Ingrid Williams, a former nurse with a passion for rally-car driving who heads the TLC Aged Care group, and Janet Matton, Vice President of Operations for IBM Australia/NZ who spent many of her 32 years with IBM in the US, Europe and Asia, are two of the finalists for the Hudson Private and Corporate Sector Award.

In total, seventeen Victorian business women were named today as finalists for the Telstra Business Women's Awards, now in their sixteenth year.

The finalists also include the Youth Development Officer at maximum security Port Phillip Prison who introduced a program teaching offenders how to run a small business, the owner of an online retail cosmetics business and the inventor of a container for freezing baby food.

A Ballarat Health Services executive who led the push for fluoridation of Ballarat's water supply, a youth worker who founded the Fitzroy-based Westside Circus and a clinical psychologist who led national campaigns to raise awareness of depression for beyondblue are finalists for the White Pages Community and Government Award.

Telstra Chief Marketing Officer and Telstra Business Women's Awards Ambassador, Kate McKenzie, said today the Victorian finalists were a diverse group of successful business women whose achievements provided inspiration for the careers of countless others.

"Telstra congratulates the 2010 finalists from Victoria for the leadership, innovation and hard work they have displayed throughout their careers," Ms McKenzie said.

"Since 1995, the Telstra Business Women's Awards have celebrated the achievements of outstanding Australian business women.

"The finalists from Victoria this year join the tradition of women who have made significant contributions both across the State and within their local communities," Ms McKenzie said.

The winners of the 2010 Telstra Victoria Business Women's Awards will be announced at a presentation luncheon on 1 October at the Atlantic Peninsula Room A, Shed 9/15 Central Pier, Docklands.

Winners of the Awards will receive a share of $200,000 in cash and prizes and become part of an exclusive national business alumni.

The Victorian winners will proceed to the national finals of the Telstra Business Women's Awards which will be announced in Melbourne on 11 November.
