Western Australia's top business women head to Awards finals

15 September 2010:A woman who heads WA's Fire and Emergency Services Authority (FESA) and another who leads the emergency roadside service of the Royal Automobile Club (RAC) are among finalists in the 2010 Telstra Western Australian Business Women's Awards.

Eighteen Western Australian business women were named today as finalists for the Awards, now in their sixteenth year.

Jo Harrison-Ward, the first woman to be CEO of FESA and the leader of 1,400 staff and 30,000 volunteers, is a finalist for the White Pages Community and Government Award while Felicity Reynolds, the RAC's Senior Manager Roadside Delivery who is responsible for the 24-hour emergency patrol services to 700,000 members, is a finalist for the Hudson Private and Corporate Sector Award.

WA's mining industry is represented among finalists by Denise Goldsworthy, Managing Director of two Rio Tinto subsidiaries including Dampier Salt which is the world's leading exporter of solar salt, and chemical engineer Elena Mavrofridis, Carbon Manager with oil and gas producer Woodside Energy.

Finalists for the Nokia Business Innovation Award include Jessica Blackwell, who established the Marangaroo-based business Equestricare, a mobile health care service for horses, and Terri Reilly, CEO of Relationships Australia WA, who expanded the Perth-based counselling organisation to 30 centres across the State and introduced specific programs for Indigenous clients.

Other finalists include Carolyn Chard, West Australian Opera's General Manager, Marion Fulker, CEO of the Committee for Perth, and Linda Steele, General Manager of chicken franchise chain CHOOKS fresh & tasty.

Telstra Chief Marketing Officer and Telstra Business Women's Awards Ambassador, Kate McKenzie, said today the Western Australian finalists were a diverse group of successful business women whose achievements provided inspiration for the careers of countless others.

"Telstra congratulates the 2010 finalists from Western Australia for the leadership, innovation and hard work they have displayed throughout their careers," Ms McKenzie said.

"Since 1995, the Telstra Business Women's Awards have celebrated the achievements of outstanding Australian business women.

"The finalists from WA this year join the tradition of women who have made significant contributions both across the State and within their local communities," Ms McKenzie said.

The winners of the 2010 Telstra Western Australian Business Women's Awards will be announced at a presentation luncheon on 12 October at the Hyatt Regency, Perth.

Winners of the Awards will receive a share of $200,000 in cash and prizes and become part of an exclusive national business alumni. The WA winners will proceed to the national finals of the Telstra Business Women's Awards which will be announced in Melbourne on 11 November.
